In July 2016, nominated Canada’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Thailand, Kingdom of Cambodia, and Lao People’s Democratic Republic Departmental Work Experience: Director-General, Consular Operations (2015-16) *managed Canada’s consular operations at over 200 mission abroad *led efforts to improve consular service delivery abroad *supported political-level interventions in key consular cases *developed strategies for difficult consular cases *supported development of new consular policy frameworks Director, Peace Support Operations and Fragile States Policy (2013-15) *directed policy development work on peace support operations and conflict/fragile states issues *directed Canada’s National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security *departmental lead, New Deal for Engagement in Fragile States *co-Secretary of the departmental Program Committee * directed work supporting Canadian’s contribution to peacekeeping, including addressing sexual exploitation and abuse *supported Canada’s chairmanship of the Special Committee on Peacekeeping *led Canadian participation in international work on atrocity prevention and sexual and gender-based violence * coordinated Canada’s Kimberly Process meetings *successfully negotiated an export moratorium on Marange/Zimbabwean diamonds Director, Democracy and Governance Division (2007-2010) * managed the $10-million Glyn Berry Program, including programming on women, peace and security * provided advice to ministers and senior managers on issues including corporate social responsibility, conflict diamonds, democracy support, children and armed conflict, and sanctions * coordinated inter-departmental process for work on conflict diamonds and the policy on Corporate Social Responsibility * led Canadian delegations to the Kimberley Process on conflict diamonds, the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights, and the Human Security Network Ambassador to the Kingdom of Cambodia (2004-07) * led Canada’s participation in the local implementation of the aid effectiveness agenda * Deputy Chair of the Cambodian implementation committee for CEDAW * supervised Canadian consular cases * established a donor embassy group to monitor/advise the Khmer Rouge Tribunal * led international efforts to secure the release of jailed human rights defenders * advocated on behalf of Canadian families for a new adoption law that met international standards * assisted Canadian companies by making direct interventions with senior leaders as appropriate * secured funding for programming including a $500K counter-terrorism training program Deputy Director, Non-Proliferation, Arms Control and Disarmament Division (2003-2004) * provided policy advice on issues related to missiles, space weaponization and export controls to the minister and senior officials * developed partnerships to implement a Ministerial initiative on space security * promoted the non-weaponization of outer space at international fora * devised and implemented a strategy to promote the Hague Code of Conduct on missiles * represented Canada at the Missile Technology Control Regime Head, Political Section and First Secretary, Canadian Embassy, Jordan (1999-2002) * supervised mission security and contingency planning post 9-11 * supported local NGOs working to address honour killings *initiated the Regional Human Security Centre , the only facility promoting human security-related dialogue and research in the Middle East * provided advice and analysis to Ottawa on the consequences of the Intifada and 9-11 on Jordan * worked with NGOs to develop/fund human rights training for the police and judiciary * coordinated visits by the Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister * supported, through advice
